Around August, I heard people raving (no pun intended) about an artist by the name Fred again.. and his "Boiler Room" set. Supposedly it was a hit on Tiktok, which I found odd because I had never stumbled across it on my own feed. My curiosity got the best of me and I listened to the Boiler Room set for the first time on a car ride back from a trip. My ears felt reborn!
The video itself is enthralling: gyrating bodies full of excitement, trying to move their way closer to Fred or trying to keep their spots near Fred. Everybody in the audience was just so excited to be there, and you could feel their energy radiating through whatever screen you were watching it on.
Since discovering Fred again.., I have listened to even more techno. TAAHLIAH's set, which I briefly wrote about in this Musing Monday post, was another set I had on repeat. I would bounce between Fred again.. and TAAHLIAH for the entire month of September. It has come to a point where I could probably sing each set.
I believe the set that truly changed my life, the set that truly made me love techno, is the Narciss B2B DJ Fuckoff from HOR Berlin back in October 2022. Watching this set never fails to bring me joy. In fact, this set alone has been able to cure me when I feel low.
The setlist is crazy: a mix of trance and what I would call "sexy, hot girl" music. Plus, the chemistry between Narciss and DJ Fuckoff are incredible. They just seem so happy to be together, and there are times where they each get excited over each other's song choices. Their energies are so contagious, and you cannot help but feel as enthusiastic as them.
The DJ that particularly changed my life-- and that is NOT an exaggeration-- is DJ Fuckoff. Originally from New Zealand, this Berlin-transplant was formerly a pop singer and now a DJ/Rapper. Her confidence, especially when performing alongside the duo Miss Bashful and DBBD, is inspirational. She truly does not care what anybody thinks, and with the techno/DJ community still predominantly male, she is a breath of fresh air. Her mixes and own music make me feel hot and unstoppable-- why wouldn't you not want to listen to something that makes you feel good?

Techno has been an incredible genre that has boosted my self confidence, and I highly recommend starting off your mornings with techno and dancing your heart out for exercise!
